urses: Royal Nepal Golf Course and Gokarna Forest Golf Resort in Kathmandu, Himalayan Golf Club and Fulbari Resort Golf Course in Pokhara and Nirvana Country Club in Dharan. The best time for a play is during the dry season between October and March. Golf clubs in Kathmandu and Pokhara offer excellent courses with magnificent view of the Himalayas.
Golf is one of the most expensive sports, was started in Nepal by the Royal families. The history of golf in Nepal goes back to the time when a delegation of Rana ministers returned home with golf clubs from a visit to Scotland. The first real golf tournament Lava Cup was started in 1920.
The Gokarna Forest Golf Resort, is one of the finest in South Asia. It is a 72-course golf area with 18 holes. The course is set in an old forest area of the Valley. Near the resort is Harmony Spa, for soothing golf senses. Established in 1829, Royal Nepal Golf Course in Kathmandu's Til Ganga is one of the oldest of Nepal and of Asia. The course was conferred the title of 'Royal' in 1911.
The Himalayan Golf Club in Pokhara situated about 6 kilometers away from the city is a recently completed pro-championship designed 9 holes golf course which is located in a beautiful amphitheater like setting of a river canyon scene with a panoramic view of the Annapurna Himalayan range.

Kathmandu -  Gokarna Forest Golf Course:
The golf course designed by Gleneagles Golf development of Scotland lies in an exclusive area of well protected forest at the edge of Kathmandu valley. The myth, magic and mystery of the once Forbidden Valley inspired the creation of a masterful challenge within this sanctuary. The par 72 international standard golf course meanders for  6,715 yards through most 500 acres of untouched forest. Eighteen holes of sheer perfection.
Pokhara – The Yeti's Golf  Course:
The course lying within the 5-star hotel property is perched on the brink of a Green Canyon gorges overlooking a most unusual riverscape of terraces and steeply forested bank of the River Seti flowing 300 ft. below. The area is tranquil, the views of the Himalayas to the north, and the Seti River far below, makes golfing here a very unusual experience.
Although it is only a 9 holes course, the use of alternate tees, greens, and pin positions, gives the golfers the feeling of playing a full 18 hole layout. One needs 1 hour and 30 minutes to finish the first round of the holes. It's quite difficult because of the deliberate small greens, narrow fairways and closed out-of bound (O/B) fenced with surrounding water ponds. A number of the tee shots across the Seti Gorge is mentally challenging even to the best golfers.

The Royal Nepal Golf Club turned 100 this year and the oldest club of the country began the centenary celebrations with a special function and unveiling of the commemorative plaque here today. Former RNGC President 90-year-old Khadga Jeet Baral and current president Rabindra Man Shrestha along with other former presidents, captains and officials unveiled the plaque and hoisted the RNGC flag on the premises of the club to kick start the celebration on the New Year’s day. Golf History in Nepal

1917 Rana Prime Minister’s delegation returns from Scotland with some golf clubs. Started playing at Gaucharan, where the present T.I. Airport runway is located. G of those days were Rana Generals like, Gen Babar Shumsher and Gen Lava Shumsher. It is believed that they had 18 holes at that time, with sand and oil/tar based greens (so called browns). Some golf tournaments were initiated at that time. Mid 1920’s The Lava cup was started in mid 1920’s 1955 The golf course at Gaucharan got shortened once airplanes started landing in Kathmandu as the runway occupied half of it’s land. Those days even King Tribhuwan and members of the Royal family used to play golf occasionally. Prince Basundhara was a keen golfer.
